If you’re after a taste of ,  then you’ll get your chance this Sunday, as Karin Muiznieks, Dan Walmsley and Ben McKenzie appear as a guests for the fourth meeting of the Anarchist Guild Social Committee! Melbourne’s smash hit sketch comedy group – which counts Ben and Set List guest star Andy McClelland among its members – bring you another show full of all-new material!

The AGSC’s fourth meeting is at the Bella Union, Trades Hall, starting at 5:30 on Sunday, September 21; tickets are $15 full/$10 concession or group, and you can get them at the door or via the Bella Union web site.

 

OBE writer/producer/performer Ben McKenzie will be be appearing as one of tonight’s guest Scrabble players for Scrabble Unscripted, Impro Australia’s Scrabble-based impro show! Come and cheer him on and see if he can get a triple word score.

You can also catch Ben at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre benefit gig 23 Positions in a One Night Stand, where he’ll be performing one of the hits of Prince. It’s on March 29 as part of Comedy @ Trades.

March 29 is also the night of Earth Hour, when Ben will be conducting a candlelit tour of historic Trades Hall with the aid of local expert Jacob.

 

The Lobotomist at Short and SweetA Record or an OBE co-stars Rob Lloyd and Ben McKenzie are reunited on stage next month for theatre in decay’s The Lobotomist, a 10-minute musical presented as part of the Short and Sweet play competition.

Trainee psychiatrist Walter Freeman (Ben McKenzie) is in love with his patient, the beautiful Madeline Ashbry (Jessica Kirby). Fearful of retribution from the Medical Board, and rejection by Madeline, Walter attempts to repress his feelings. Late one night the ghost of his namesake, Walter “Icepick” Freeman (Rob Lloyd), inventor of the lobotomy, appears to him to teach him to take a chance and follow his dreams, no matter how crazy they may be. The play also features musicians Mick Cahill, Bree Hartley and writer/director Robert Reid.

The Lobotomist has been chosen as one of the Top 30 entries as an independent theatre company submission, and will be performed in Week 2 of the competition, from December 12th to 15th. Short and Sweet itself runs from December 5th to 22nd at the Fairfax Studio, Melbourne Arts Centre, St Kilda Road. Tickets are $23 – $28, with ten plays presented at each performance.
