A huge thanks to all who showed up in force (ha!) to support our Star Wars themed show, Dungeon Crawl: A New Hope! Aamer the Jedi Academy dropout (Aamer Rahman) was convinced to lead a rag-tag bunch of “heroes” including Fitz Roy, the hispter Twi’lek bounty hunter who provided transport in her one-speed spaceship the SS Animal Collective (Clem Bastow), Benjamin Salivaface, a Gammorean guard with a dream to succeed on Tatooine’s Got Talent (Scott Edgar) and Oscar the Garbage Droid with a terrible secret (Adam McKenzie). On their mission to steal the plans for the “giant shooty death dog thing” they encountered a drunk Imperial officer, a surprisingly easily recruited Wookiee, an oddly familiar scenario involving a garbage compactor and a creature with one eyeball (guest star Simon Barber) and a shocking betrayal!

Thanks also to the local garrison of the 501st Legion, who showed up in uniform to lend an air of authority to proceedings, and to Craig Tonkin and the folk at Primordial Productions, who not only provided a copy of Suburban Knights episodes one and two for us to screen, but also a copy to give away to the best audience suggestion! (Which was, by the way, when I asked for a different “Mos” something as a place on Tattooine, and a couple of wags suggested “Mos Def”!)

We’ll be back on June 1 with another D&D themed adventure, this time featuring Brenna Courtney-Glazebrook, Jimmy James Eaton, Karin Muiznieks and Casey Bennetto! Plus, as we sneakily announced on May the 4th, our July show will celebrate both the release of the last film in another amazing franchise, and the Melbourne Magic Festival: yes, July 6th will be Dungeon Crawl and the Deathly Philosopher Prince’s Goblet of Azkaban. Both shows unmissable, so we’ll see you twice!

Late Night Dungeon Crawl: Part Deux!

This week’s Late Night Dungeon Crawl will be huge! Braving the ire (and fire) of the dungeon monsters are ABC1 star Lawrence Leung (Lawrence Leung Wants a Jetpack), Canadian sensation DeAnne Smith (About Freakin’ Time), the man who puts the “Scott Edgar” into Scott Edgar and the Universe and Tripod, Scott Edgar and returning from last week, Toby Halligan (Diary Leaks, Electile Dysfunction) and Dave Bloustien (Good News Week, A Complete History of Western Philosophy)! Plus of course your regular Dungeon Master Ben McKenzie, and monster-of-the-week Richard McKenzie.

While the delightful Bec Hill (Bec Hill Didn’t Want to Play Your Stupid Game Anyway) sadly won’t be able to join us, there just might be a few more special guests – and in any case, this should be the biggest Dungeon Crawl yet!

First Late Night Dungeon Crawl looks like a cracker!

This coming Wednesday, March 30, our confirmed late night dungeoneers are Comedy Festival performers Toby Halligan (Diary Leaks, Electile Dysfunction), Dave Bloustien (Good News Week, A Complete History of Western Philosophy), Jimmy James Eaton (The Big Hoo-Haa!, Guilt Trip) and Xavier Michaelides (The Apocalyptic User’s Guide, Future World)! Plus whoever else we rustle up for your fantasy adventuring pleasure. So get yourself down to the Bella Union this Wednesday at 11 PM! Tickets $14 from the Bella Union web site, or $15 on the door.

Oh, and Dr Watson’s Comedy Soul Lounge is also on, from 8:30, so if you want a big night of comedy, you can always come along for both! And who knows – maybe some of the acts there will stick around to face a monster or two…

The first Dungeon Crawl is away!

Yes, on February 2nd, a party of brave adventurers went on a thrilling quest! Here’s a recap of who was there, and what they did.

Nick Caddaye played a mighty, taciturn dragonborn ranger named Pikachu, whose twin weapons were a sword and a beer. Andy McClelland was Gax Garyguy, a minotaur who had given up all ability to navigate labyrinths to be a music promoter with high Charisma and an infinite supply of unwanted promo CDs. Geraldine Quinn was Tmesis (it’s a word – look it up), a half-human, half-horse, half-mathematician cleric who wielded Fowler’s Modern English Usage and a red correcting pen in the name of Mycantor, god of grammar. Finally, Scott Edgar played the dwarven druid Ironbeard Muntingbone, whose special powers were summoning and controlling normal and giant insects, and calling down lightning – though only if sufficient orgasmic energy was available through ancient, orgiastic rites.

These four were recruited by the mayor of the swamp-locked town of Orcfest to find out what happened to their children, who had gone missing. They tracked the children through the swamp, where they defeated a band of kobolds and picked up on the trail of a gelatinous cube, which had been engulfing the children and taking them to its master, an evil cleric trying to raise an army of evil babies – including a baby dragon. Pikachu revealed that he had been searching for this lost wyrmling all along, and despite being horribly wounded, managed to talk it into betraying its master.

We’re pleased to confirm a great line-up of guest players for our first monthly Dungeon Crawl on February 2! The first party of brave adventurers to grace the stage of the Bella Union will consist of Andrew McClelland (The Circle, A Fairly Accurate History of the Fall of the Roman Empire), Nick Caddaye (The Anarchist Guild Social Committee, The Terminativity), Geraldine Quinn (Spicks and Specks, Shut Up and Sing!) and Scott Edgar (Tripod, Scott Edgar and the Universe).
