It’s been a stupendously (or perhaps stupidly) busy Melbourne International Comedy Festival for me, as evidenced by the list of eight nine shows in which I performed this year! I had this list on the front page, but now the festival is over it seems wise to move it to a post. Here’s a run down all in one place:
- The Peer Revue – science comedy with Simon Pampena, Trent McCarthy, Nicholas J Johnson and yours truly!
- The Melbourne Museum Comedy Tour – does what it says on the tin; back for a fifth year and better than ever!
- Pop Up Playground – the first public game from our social pervasive games outfit.
- Late Night Letters and Numbers – just like the SBS game show, only late and night with more jokes, more swearing and lower scores.
- Political Asylum’s Late Night Riot! – topical political comedy every week! (Though I only appeared the last week.)
- Karenoke (part of St Ali’s Lae Night Percolator) – a bunch of cool comedians sing karaoke tunes while Karen Pickering teaches you the art of doing it right.
- Late Night Dungeon Crawl – the monthly D&D impro show stays up past bedtime and invites comedians from the festival to play, every week.
- +1 Sword – a one-off reprise of Ben and Richard’s original Dungeons & Dragons show for Melbourne roleplaying convention ConQuest 2012.
- Somebody To Love: A Tribute to the Songs of Queen – perhaps my favourite gig ever, a fundraiser for the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre. Pictures by Tim Chuma here, or by Ben Loveridge here.
But now that festival is done, it’s time to look ahead to the next one: the 2012 Emerging Writers Festival begins on May 24, and the EWF events program – launched today – is chock full of great stuff! If you’d like to see me, I’m hosting the “Revenge of the Nerds” slide night at the Workers Club on May 30. A lovely line-up of writers will present pecha kucha style presentations (20 slides, auto-advancing every 20 seconds) about their inner nerds. I, of course, do not have an inner nerd; I’m at least 86% nerd, so if anything, I have an inner cool guy.
