Thanks to the great crowd who made the effort of staying up way beyond my bedtime to join us for the first Late Night Dungeon Crawl! Guests Toby Halligan, Dave Bloustien, Jimmy James Eaton and Xavier Michaelides brought to life an amazing array of characters, including a half-ranger/half-tank, a hipster halfling, a fallen Valkyrie and a multiclass lover/fighter whose accent “wasn’t racist because there was no discernible country of origin”. And that druid who sent them on their quest was angry… Thanks too to Richard McKenzie, who was aided and abetting in his monster duties by  Sean Fabri.

Next week’s show looks even bigger, with confirmed guests Bec Hill (Bec Hill Didn’t Want to Play Your Stupid Game Anyway), Lawrence Leung (Lawrence Leung Wants a Jetpack), DeAnne Smith (Canada), Scott Edgar (Tripod) and returning from this week, Dave Bloustien and Toby Halligan. Plus there might be a few more special guests, in what might turn out to be the biggest Dungeon Crawl ever! We hope to see you there at 11 PM, April 6, at the Bella Union.

This coming Wednesday, March 30, our confirmed late night dungeoneers are Comedy Festival performers Toby Halligan (Diary Leaks, Electile Dysfunction), Dave Bloustien (Good News Week, A Complete History of Western Philosophy), Jimmy James Eaton (The Big Hoo-Haa!, Guilt Trip) and Xavier Michaelides (The Apocalyptic User’s Guide, Future World)! Plus whoever else we rustle up for your fantasy adventuring pleasure. So get yourself down to the Bella Union this Wednesday at 11 PM! Tickets $14 from the Bella Union web site, or $15 on the door.

Oh, and Dr Watson’s Comedy Soul Lounge is also on, from 8:30, so if you want a big night of comedy, you can always come along for both! And who knows – maybe some of the acts there will stick around to face a monster or two…

Yes, it’s barely more than two weeks until the launch of the 2011 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and of course Shaolin Punk will be there providing some excitingly nerdy comedy. The Melbourne Museum Comedy Tour is now in its fourth year, and this year features not only new stuff (the 600 Million Years: Victoria Evolves gallery!) but new talent in the form of Kate McLennan (The Debutante Diaries), Stella Young (two-time state Raw Comedy finalist), Danny McGinlay (Food Dude, The 7PM Project) and Amanda Buckley (Beaconsfield the Musical)! Oh, and it’s head tour guide is once again Shaolin Punk creative director Ben McKenzie.

And, though we’ve said it before, there’s also a lot of Dungeon Crawl coming your way. While the show isn’t an official part of the festival, we’ve committed ourselves to bringing you the best nerdy comedians playing D&D for your pleasure with four late-night shows throughout the festival. We can tell you that we’ve got quite a line-up, including Lawrence Leung (Choose Your Own Adventure), DeAnne Smith (Canada), Dave Bloustien (Wit Large), Scott Edgar and Steven Gates (Tripod) and a whole bunch of other comedians you didn’t even know were geeks. In fact, there are so many of them, we’ve found a way to cram more of them into every show – so expect some surprises!

We won’t be able to give you full line-ups in advance, so you should just come along every Wednesday night at 11 PM from March 30 to April 20 and see who’s on. You’re in for a…[rolls dice]…great time.
