Hi punks! Sorry it’s been quiet here for a while; life has been incredibly busy for Shaolin Punk supremo Ben McKenzie, but we’ll soon be posting recaps of our last few shows, along with pictures for most of them.

We’d like to thank all of you who came along to our September and October shows and made them such great successes – a few lovely people insisted October was our best Dungeon Crawl yet, and it was certainly one of our favourites! Next month, on November 7, we’re giving you the themed show you demanded – a Star Trek adventure! Dungeon Trek: Where No One Has Crawled Before will feature some old favourite crawlers we’ve not seen in a while: Nick Caddaye and Adam McKenzie! Plus the amazing Lisa-Skye returns after wowing us in our superhero show back in July, and for the first time ever, we welcoe star of Million Dollar Tegan, Tegan Higginbotham to the Crawl!

Finally for this update, we have some exciting news: Dungeon Crawl is coming to the Adelaide Fringe in 2013! Yes, for four nights in March, Dungeon Crawl will be playing a late night slot at Gluttony, the tent venue across the road from the Garden of Unearthly Delights. It’ll be our first time at the Adelaide Fringe (though both Ben and Richard are Fringe veterans), and we can’t wait to see which Fringe artists from around the country and across the world we can bag for our shows. We hope you’ll come and join us!

Dungeon Crawl has been to a galaxy far, far away; to a magical school high in the Scottish hills; to the depths of cosmic madness; and to countless dungeons and caverns. But always, always with the knowledge that the dice will rule, and the rulebooks hold sway.

Not this time.

In celebration of the upcoming Freeplay Independent Games Festival (September 19-23), on September 5 Dungeon Crawl goes digital with a videogames theme! Will our heroes tackle the foul monsters with a well-timed headbut? Will their swords be bigger than they are? Will their different control schemes and play styles force them into an unstable alliance? Will a zillion different videogame universes coalesce into a glorious mashup of a world, the likes of which is only normally seen in a Squaresoft title?

Yes!

Join Dungeon Master Control Program Ben “McKenzie” Shepard, end of level boss Richard “Bowser” McKenzie and a stellar line-up of game playing guests:

  • Comedian and DJ Andrew McClelland!
  • Writer and game developer Leena van Deventer!
  • TV and radio presenter Paul Verhoeven!
  • Comedian and occasional Good Game reviewer Dave Callan!

Join us on Wednesday September 5th at 8:30 PM at the Bella Union, upstairs at Trades Hall on the corner of Lygon Street and Victoria Parade!

Doors open 8 PM; tickets are $15 at the door, or $14 online at bellaunion.com.au.

Amazingly it’s already time for another Dungeon Crawl – and your faithful chronicler hasn’t even had time to write up the superhero exploits of the last one! (Probably he was too busy playing games.)

We know this month the world is obsessed with the Olympics and the struggle for gold, but we’re instead focussing on another kind of gold altogether, with our next outing, Dungeon Crawl: Thank You For Being A Fiend.

Yes, you asked for it, and now we’re delivering it: the Dungeon Crawl you never thought would happen! In an episode inspired by one of the greatest and most beloved sit-coms of all time, join four heroic women in their golden years of adventuring as they band together to travel down the road and back again, searching for the biggest gift they can find – in the monsters’ lair!

Join your Dungeon Masters Ben McKenzie and Richard McKenzie for a romp through danger with our stellar line-up:

  • Vic Healy - comedian, improviser and slightly squeamish when it comes to body parts;
  • Louise Joy McCrea – actor, comedian and cabaret star;
  • Michelle Nussey - star improviser with both The Big Hoo-Haa and Impro Melbourne; and
  • Dungeon Crawl veteran, comedian and actor Brenna Courtney Glazebrook!

(We’d like to give a big shout out to Karen Pickering – writer, editor and creator of Cherchez la Femme - who was going to join us, but is sadly languishing in bed with the plague. You’re a friend and a confidant, Karen; get well soon!)

Come and join us in the other battle for gold!

Dungeon Crawl: Thank You For Being A Fiend is on Wednesday, August 1, at the Bella Union. (Facebook event here.) Doors open 8 PM; tickets $14 online (including booking fee) or $15 on the door.
